Oil and LNG terminal operator Klaipedos Nafta (KN) has signed an agreement with UAB Elektrenu Energetikos Remontas on the reconstruction and adaptation of two tanks for bitumen handling.

During the last four years, KN has invested about LTL45 million in the Klaipeda oil terminal. Last year, the company started operating a new tank farm, the volume of which increased by 120,000 m3, and currently stands at 575,000 m3.

The existing two 4,200 m3 tanks, in which fuel oil with water impurities were previously stored, will be adapted for the handling and storage of a new product – bitumen. Product unloading pumps will be installed near the tanks, which will pump hot (150 – 160°C) bitumen from the tankers into the tanks, store them and later transfer them to tankers.

They are scheduled for completion in 2H21. The value of the contract is €2.1 million. The investment project is planned by the company in order to increase the efficiency and flexibility of the oil terminal in Klaipeda by adapting the existing infrastructure to new cargoes.
