Announcing the news, Royal Vopak said: “Vopak LNG is studying the feasibility of developing an LNG import terminal for Victoria, Australia.”

Additionally, Vopak LNG, which already partners in four liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage facilities globally, is investigating the feasibility of developing a similar facility in Port Phillip Bay, offshore at North Avalon.

It said: “This infrastructure can play an important role in solving Victoria’s looming gas supply crisis.”

A Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) terminal would supply the gas needs of households, businesses and industry throughout Victoria as the nation transitions to renewable energy.

Several existing gas market participants have signed MOUs in support of the project development.
