During chemical products and hydrocarbon bulk liquid storage (the so-called tank breathing), product loading and unloading, transport, cleaning and inerting of tanks, pollutant emissions are emitted into the atmosphere.

These emissions are mostly emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) and must be eliminated in a safe, effective way.

To eliminate VOCs, the most commonly used and most effective technology is RTO (Regenerative Thermal Oxidation). An RTO system does not only fulfil the objective of eliminating Volatile Organic Compounds, but it can also achieve very high energy recovery rates, maintaining the same high VOC elimination effectiveness.

The hydrocarbon and chemical tank storage industry constantly encounter these types of VOC emissions challenges during their tank venting processes.

Regardless of the tank content, the characteristics of the tank or the type of loss produced (permanent or working), the chemical, petrochemical and tank storage sectors need to obtain a specialised solution tailored to each situation, in order to correctly and safely eliminate the polluting emissions generated during gas venting.

Koole Tankstore Minerals is an international hydrocarbon storage company with a total storage capacity of over 3,500,000 cubic metres. For its facilities in the Port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands, Tecam was contracted to eliminate the emissions of VOCs generated during gas venting.

Tecam designed and installed a custom-made solution based on Regenerative Thermal Oxidation technology that managed to reduce the tank farm’s VOC emissions by 99.9 percent.
