Magellan Midstream Partners has extended the open season it launched to gauge customer interest in a potential expansion of its New Mexico refined products pipeline.

The pipeline, which is around 400 km long, currently runs from Magellan’s terminal in El Paso, Texas to terminals in Albuquerque, New Mexico owned by Marathon and Vecenergy.

It carries different grades of gasoline and diesel. The potential expansion would increase the pipeline’s capacity by more than 5,000 bpd to more than 30,000 bpd and provide the New Mexico market with additional access to refined products from the El Paso area and Gulf Coast refineries.

The increased capacity could be available by late 2022, with the addition of incremental pumping capabilities.

The open season was originally due to close on March 19, 2021. It will now end on 5pm CT on March 31, 2021.

Magellan said “significant interest” has been expressed and that the extension will give interested customers time to finalise commitments.
