Van der Kamp started as CEO of Mercon Group BV on April 16, 2020. He succeeds Henk Meijer in the role, who has been CEO of Mercon Group for almost three years. In a statement, Mercon said: “The company has entered a new phase and that is reason for Meijer to hand over the management of the company.”

Citing a need for change, the statement said: “Mercon currently has lower sales than we know from history. The company at the Merwede was still very active in the manufacture and assembly of offshore drilling rigs in addition to the construction and servicing of bridges and storage tanks for oil, gas and biofuels.”

It said this new phase is characterised “by leaving the regime structure of the company and thus ending the need for presence of a supervisory board”.

Van der Kamp is an experienced CEO from the world of international industrial services in the field of maintenance and construction of various types of assets. In his new role, he will primarily focus on further optimising business operations, strengthening and expanding Mercon’s position and initiating the process towards a multidisciplinary service provider.

Van der Kamp previously worked at LyondellBasell, Koole, Argos Oil, Verwater Group, COUNT Companies and most recently at CTS Group.

Van der Kamp said of the announcement: “Mercon Group BV is an important player in the Benelux market and I see plenty of growth opportunities there. The demand for service & projects within the (petrochemical) industry, tank storage operators and infrastructure remains high. Mercon Group is a reliable partner in this, where safety & craftsmanship are paramount. I look forward to this new challenge.”
