Matrix Service, a subsidiary of US-based Matrix Service Company, has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for a new peak shaving facility in the western US. Construction is planned to begin in Q3 2020, and the facility is expected to be operational by Q4 2022.

Matrix said its newly-won facility will include a 1bn+ ft3 (28m+ m3) LNG storage tank, and will help to ensure demand for natural gas can always be met in what the company describes as a “major metropolitan area and its surrounding counties.”

Matrix has not revealed the location of the LNG liquefaction plant but has said it will execute the contract jointly with a confidential utilities firm.

John R. Hewitt, Matrix Service Company’s President and Chief Executive Officer, said: “As an industry leader with more than four decades of experience in low-temperature and cryogenic tanks and terminals, we are very pleased to have been awarded this important project.”

He added: “We look forward to leveraging our specialized expertise in providing proven execution strategies and effective, efficient solutions in the production, re-gasification, and storage of LNG to deliver this project safely, on time and on budget.”
