Marathon Petroleum has said that Martinez refinery will be converted into a new terminal facility.

Elsewhere, the company said it will indefinitely idle its refineries in Martinez, California, and Gallup, New Mexico, with no plans to restart normal operations.

It said it is “evaluating the strategic repositioning of Martinez to a renewable diesel facility”, which aligns with California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standards objectives and the company’s greenhouse gas reduction targets.

A phased reduction of staffing levels is due to begin in October of this year.
