Magellan Midstream Partners is seeking to gauge customer interest in a potential expansion of its New Mexico refined products pipeline, and has launched an open season.

The potential expansion would increase the pipeline’s capacity by more than 5,000 bpd to more than 30,000 bpd. The increased capacity could be available by late 2022, with the addition of incremental pumping capabilities.

The pipeline, which is around 400 km long, currently runs from Magellan’s terminal in El Paso, Texas to terminals in Albuquerque, New Mexico owned by Marathon and Vecenergy. It carries different grades of gasoline and diesel.

Magellan said expanding the pipeline would provide additional access to refined products from El Paso area and Gulf Coast refineries to the New Mexico market.

The deadline for customers to submit binding commitments is 5pm CT on March 19, 2021.
