LBC Tank Terminals beat 91 submissions and won the 2019 Verdantix EHS Innovation Award in the Transport & Logistics category for their customised work on its EHS database in partnership with Pro-Sapien. The award was presented during the EHS Summit Americas in Atlanta.

The company’s Group CEO Walter Wattenbergh commented: “I am very proud that the team at LBC has won this award. Together with Pro-Sapien we have worked hard to customise this database to improve user accessibility and to ensure that we assess not only the actual outcome of an incident but also the potential severity of an incident. This together with our focus on proactive safety KPIs such as near miss reporting and sustainable safety behaviour observations has led to a decrease in our Total Recordable Incident Frequency Rate over the last years.”

LBC Tank Terminals stated it was honoured to receive this award as a recognition for the contributions made to its strong company culture committed to providing a safe working environment for all employees.

Group Corporate Social Responsibility Director Doctor Allison Volbeda-Newell states that “LBC takes a holistic approach to risk management. We implemented Pro-Sapien as part of this approach and have improved employee engagement ever since. Not only that, we’re now proactively capturing a broader spectrum of risks covering all aspects of Corporate Social Responsibility throughout the company. This focus on actively tracking proactive reporting and assigning risk treatment measures using the Action Manager makes LBC an even safer and more rewarding place to work.”

The Annual Verdantix EHS Innovation Awards celebrate innovative projects related to EHS management and, most importantly, the people behind these successful technologies. LBC Tank Terminals’ CSR Manager Martin Hoogenraad and US Regional HSSEQ Manager Gary Cotie accepted the award on behalf of the team together with Pro-Sapien’s Marketing & Communications Manager Hannah Stewart.

Group Corporate Social Responsibility Manager Martin Hoogenraad stated: “This EHS Innovation Award recognizes the teamwork between LBC and Pro-Sapien to develop a custom-made HSSEQ platform that is aligned with our 5 Core Values and our Corporate Social Responsibility Policy The platform facilitates the reporting of incidents and safety observations and manages improvement actions. Further, it plays a vital role in our learning-from-incidents process, as all information regarding incidents and pro-active safety reports are transparent and visible for everyone in the organisation. I truly believe that this tool has helped us, removing a silo mentality and creating a ‘one-LBC’ organisation.”
