A leak from an industrial gas tank is reportedly the cause of a huge explosion in Tehran, in the middle of the night last week (26 June, 2020).

The blast, which happened in the Parchin area of the city, happened just after midnight – no casualties were reported. A neighbouring military site was initially thought to be the source, but this was strongly refuted by Iran’s Defence Ministry.

Second Brigadier General Davud Abdi, Head of the Defence Ministry’s Public Relations Office, said there were no problems at the military site, and that the fire at the exploded industrial tank had been contained quickly by local firefighting units.

Various official agencies are now investigating the incident.
