The 39th Annual International Operating Conference & Trade Show was a resounding success, with nearly 3,600 participating. The festivities started on Sunday, June 2 with the Annual ILTA Golf Tournament at Wildcat Golf Club, where more than 170 players met to test their skills on the course. The day was hot, but the golfers had an excellent outing with plenty of opportunity to catch up with friends and business associates.

The conference kicked off on Monday, June 3, with a keynote speech by Magellan Senior Vice President Melanie Little, who discussed achieving improved outcomes through strategies, outcomes and goals. Ms. Little outlined how a clear vision and using an intentional approach to planning can yield results.

More than 650 attendees participated in the 28 conference sessions that followed, spanning topics from environmental compliance, business and operations, health and safety, security and emergency response to international markets.

Another keynoter, Professor Jordy Hendrikx, provided a thought-provoking lunch talk on rethinking risk that drew the connections between avalanche safety, normalization of deviance and terminal safety. The conference closed June 4 with an inspiring presentation by Walter Nusbaum in which he described the seven traits of successful individuals and teams and challenged attendees to critically evaluate themselves and their commitment to personal and professional improvement.

The annual trade show began early afternoon June 4, with more than 340 exhibitors showing their services and technologies. The trade show floor was busy and filled with energy. Seventy-five percent of next year’s floor space has been sold/booked.

Three training sessions started on Wednesday, June 5. A one-day class on terminal tank construction was offered in partnership with the Steel Tank Institute/Steel Plate Fabricators Association. Other students attended a 1.5-day session on the Clean Air Act for liquid terminals. ILTA also offered its Introduction to Terminals class.

“ILTA would like to thank all our sponsors, especially our Platinum sponsor HMT and our Gold sponsors Fisher Tank Company and Matrix,” said the organisation. “We also thank all our attendees and exhibitors. See you next year for ILTA’s 40th International Operating Conference and Trade Show in Houston June 8-10!”
