The Höegh Giant, which is India’s first floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), has berthed at H-Energy’s Jaigarh terminal in Maharashtra on India’s west coast, following her journey from Keppel Shipyard in Singapore.
The FSRU, which was built in 2017, has a storage capacity of 170,000 m3, and a peak regasification capacity of approximately 6 million tpa. It will be connected to the 56 km Jaigarh-Dabhol natural gas pipeline, which connects the LNG terminal to India’s national gas grid.
The facility will also load trucks for onshore LNG distribution, and will have the capability to reload LNG onto small-scale LNG vessels for bunkering services. H-Energy says that it intends to develop a small-scale LNG market in the region.
Indian LNG company H-Energy announced it had chartered the Höegh Giant for the terminal in December 2020. With the FSRU’s arrival, the Jaigarh terminal can now begin testing and commissioning activities.
H-Energy CEO Darshan Hiranandani said: “We are committed to the growth of LNG market in India. We aim to contribute to the overall development of natural gas value chain, aligned with the prime minister’s vision of increasing the share of natural gas in India’s energy mix from present 6 percent to 15 percent by 2030.”
