The opening ceremony of Gastech 2018 30th edition was inaugurated by His Royal Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain, who invited the six consortium members to discuss key issues.

Gastech’s plenary session featured a highly thought-provoking panel debate with some of the industry’s leading influencers and CEOs including Saad Sherida al-Kaabi, CEO, Qatar Petroleum, Maarten Wetselaar, Integrated Gas and New Energies Director and member of the executive committee, Royal Dutch Shell, Alexander Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Management Committee, Gazprom, and Josu Jon Imaz, CEO, Repsol. The session was moderated by CNBC anchor Steve Sedgwick.

The Gastech global leaders’ panel examined the transitional impacts of the new energy landscape on the gas industry and discussed the future of gas in delivering global energy post 2020.

Day One of the inaugural GPEX began with an official Government welcome address, followed by a global energy outlook from Lazlo Varro, Chief Economist, International Energy Agency, and panel discussions on subjects including financing the transition to a low carbon energy system and facilitating the new energy landscape.

Both Gastech and GPEX are being held in the Fira Gran Via, Barcelona, until Thursday, 20 September.

The Gastech exhibition is bringing together over 700 global exhibiting companies and 30,000 visitors from across the up, mid and downstream gas, LNG and energy industries worldwide.

The Gastech technical conference has been significantly expanded this year to include upstream exploration and field development, through processing, pipelines and shipping to downstream petrochemicals and power generation. Spanning over 82 technical sessions, the technical conference will offer attendees the best business critical content spanning the entire value chain.

GPEX 2018 will address the theme of the energy transition, providing an in-depth and thought-provoking examination of the strategies, technologies and innovations shaping our energy future. The event will see collaboration between international power and energy leaders, to examine long-term changes in the way energy is produced, distributed and consumed.

The GPEX exhibition features a technical knowledge theatre, with daily presentations offering proven and practical examples of successful projects, and case studies of new technologies, processes and business models.

Gastech and GPEX will include three more days of panel discussions and presentations from the industry’s key global leaders, addressing the most current gas, LNG, power and energy issues, whilst also looking to the future.
