27.08.2015. Reuters has reported that a heating unit at a Petrobras terminal in Brazil used to treat bunker fuel exploded on Wednesday, killing two workers.

Quoting a statement from the press office of BR Distribuidora SA, the fuels distribution unit of Petroleo Brasileiro SA, the agency said the blast and resulting fire broke out about 10am local time (1300 GMT) while workers were doing planned maintenance on the heating unit.

The fire at the depot at Port of Tubarao, near Vitória, was brought under control by on-site firefighters and “presents no immediate risk to anyone in the vicinity”, BR Distribuidora said in the statement.

The accident comes a week after the board of Petrobras approved a plan for an initial public offering of up to 25 percent of the stock in BR Distribuidora, Brazil’s largest service-station operator and fuels distributor, the Reuters report continued.

The fuels unit at Tubarao supplies bunker fuel needed for vessels including dry-bulk carriers that ship Vale iron ore at the port.
