CNOOC Gas and Power is expanding its Zhuhai LNG terminal with the project about to enter its second phase.

The next phase of the project has been approved by the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission and will see the processing capacity of the terminal double to 7m mt/year.

Five storage tanks will be added, each with a capacity of 270,000 m3. Work is expected to start in June and the second phase is likely to come online in December 2023, CNOOC Gas and Power said.

Currently, the terminal which is located in Guangdong province, has three storage tanks each with a capacity of 160,000 m3.

The cities of Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Foshan, Zhuhai, Zhongshan, Macao and Jiangmen are all supplied with gas from the terminal.

The terminal became operational in November and has imported more than 13m mt of LNG.
