PRIO’s liquid bulk terminal in Aveiro, Portugal is to undergo an €11 million expansion, the Portuguese biofuel producer has announced.

As a result, the gasoline storage capacity at the facility has gone from 10,000 m3 to 26,000 m3, and the diesel storage capacity has increased by 4,000 m3.

The first delivery of 14 million L of gasoline and 3.5 million L of heating diesel arrived in a ship from Antwerp, Belgium.

PRIO is the largest biofuel producer in Portugal and the third largest European producer of biodiesel from waste raw materials.

The additional capacity will allow PRIO to work with more sustainable products and fuel blends which incorporate a greater proportion of advanced biofuels, it said.

Emanuel Proença, director of PRIO, added: “This expansion is the logical continuation of the sustained growth that PRIO has shown in recent years.

“Our goal is to offer innovative, sustainable and quality products at a competitive price and with this expansion we take another step towards that goal, also allowing us to increase our product portfolio. We have very clear growth objectives and the realisation of this investment was essential to achieve them.”
