Duro Felguera (DF), via its subsidiary Felguera IHI, has won the contract to build Vopak’s new fuel supply terminal for ships and storage in Bahia las Minas, on the Atlantic coast of Panama.

Situated in the province of Colon the project will be jointly completed with FCC for a total of US$99.6 million, of which $70 million corresponds to the scope of the work to be carried out by the DF subsidiary. More specifically, Felguera IHI will execute the whole terminal on a turnkey basis except for the maritime and civil work which includes the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of the facility.

The new terminal will be located on land where the old Panama Refinery, belonging to Chevron, was located, and will have nine storage tanks for marine diesel oil and fuel oil, as well as clean oil products (low sulphur gas oil, 95 octane gasoline and Jet A). The aggregate capacity will be 376,000 cbm.

A mooring dock for loading and unloading vessels will also be built and the project will be completed with a product piping and transfer system, fire-fighting, an electrical and supervision system and equipment for the stored product quality control laboratory.

Work is planned to start in spring next year and the deadline is 24 months. The Bahia las Minas terminal is just 10 km from the entrance to the Panama Canal and is a benchmark centre for regional hydrocarbon distribution.
