Tarsco, a subsidiary of TF Warren, claimed a string of awards at the recent STI/SPFA Awards Banquet in Chandler, Arizona. Tarsco – Linde Ammonia Project Casper Wyoming was the winner of the API 62 – Low Pressure Liquid Storage Tank award.

The company was recognised for its engineering, procurement, fabrication, and construction work of and API 620 Annex R Anhydrous Ammonia Tank (114′-6″ diameter x 92′-6″ high), with a capacity of 150,000 bbl of NH3 anhydrous ammonia.

In addition to the actual construction of the tank, the scope of work included the tank foundation, installation of the heating system, insulation, and coating.

The 6,500-foot elevation, high winds, cold temperatures, and snow presented challenges with the project schedule. The roof’s main platform was another challenge because of its size and that it could not be supported on the roof due to contraction concerns by the client.

The contractor met this challenge by constructing a large girder to span across the whole roof and connecting it to the compression bar. The contractor utilised its roof air raising technology by constructing the dome roof near the bottom of the tank and then air raising it to the final position.

The second award was taken home by Tarsco – Powder Springs Georgia in the ASME Pressure Vessel Storage Category. The site owner wanted to construct two large spheres so it could receive and store butane year around and then inject it into gasoline during the winter months when vapours would be at their lowest.

Tasco constructed two butane ASME pressure vessels with a combined capacity of 136,000 bbl. The project was successfully completed without any recordable accidents and over 100 days ahead of schedule.

Also included in the haul was the 2017 Safety Award – Award of Excellence, given to Tarsco Construction Corporation, Tarsco Inc. Dominican Republic, Tarsco South America and Tarsco Terminal Services Virgin Islands.
