08.06.16. The average US rig count for May 2016 was 408, down 29 from the 437 counted in April 2016, and down 481 from the 889 counted in May 2015, according to Baker Hughes.
By far the biggest US reduction was in land-based rigs, which fell to 384 in May, down from 411 in April this year, and down from 857 in May 2015.
The average Canadian land-based count for May was 40, stable against April 2016, but down from 78 counted in May 2015.
Worldwide, the rig count for May was 1,405, 19 down on the 1,424 counted in April, and 722 lower than the 2,127 counted in May last year.
