Petrobras CEO Pedro Parente has resigned from his position following a dispute over the influence of the Brazilian government. Ivan Monteiro has been named to head Brazilian state-controlled oil company Petrobras on an interim basis.
Ivan, who has been Chief Financial Officer since 2015, was given the interim position after Pedro’s resignation, which comes following intense criticism during a trucker strike that paralysed parts of the country’s economy.
Pedro came to office in 2016 to bring the scandal-stricken company back on track. His one condition to take on the task was that Petrobras should be allowed to set fuel prices for itself. However, at the end of May President Michel Temer bowed to striking truck drivers and announced that the diesel price would be fixed monthly in the future. In addition, there should be further measures to lower the price.
