NextDecade has announced that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has prepared a draft environmental impact statement (EIS) for its Rio Grande LNG Project in Brownsville, South Texas, as well as its associated Rio Bravo Pipeline to originate in Agua Dulce area.
Matt Schatzman, NextDecade’s President and Chief Executive Officer, said: “The draft EIS represents a culmination of several years of analysis and evaluation in conjunction with multiple federal, state, and local agencies and stakeholders.”
The project will be developed on a 984-acre site in the Port of Brownsville, Texas. It will accommodate six liquefaction trains would be constructed and operated at the Rio Grande LNG Terminal, each with a nominal capacity of 4.5 Mtpa of LNG for export, resulting in the LNG Terminal’s nominal capacity of 27 Mtpa. Four LNG storage tanks, each with a net capacity of 180,000 cbm are to be constructed.
FERC will issue a final EIS on 26 April 2019, and it has established a 90-day Federal Authorisation Decision Deadline of July 25, 2019. Assuming a favourable FERC order, NextDecade anticipates a final investment decision on the project in the third quarter of 2019.
