IEnova, a subsidiary of Mexico’s Sempra Energy, has announced it plans to invest approximately $130m to develop, construct, and operate the Baja Refinados terminal.

The terminal is IEnova’s fourth refined product terminal in Mexico and is expected to begin commercial operations in the second half of 2020.

The company has signed a long-term contract with Chevron Combustibles de México for the storage and delivery of hydrocarbons, primarily gasoline and diesel. The terminal will have an initial storage capacity of around 1 million barrels of which 50% will be utilised by Chevron.

The terminal will receive, store, and deliver hydrocarbons, primarily gasoline and diesel, within the La Jovita Energy Centre, which is located 23 km north of Ensenada, Mexico.

The project called Baja Refinados will enhance supply options, improve logistics, and increase refined product supply reliability in Baja California, which will translate into benefits for consumers in the region.

IEnova, through its affiliates, will be responsible for all aspects of project implementation, including permitting, engineering, procurement, construction, financing, operations, and maintenance of the terminal.
