The China National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC) announced the first phase will see the construction of three 160,000 cbm storage tanks allowing the facility to handle up to 3 mta of LNG. The jetty facilities will be able to accommodate not only LNG carriers up to the 266,000 cbm but also 30,000 cbm coastal distribution tankers.
Construction work, which is jointly contracted to CNOOC Gas & Power Group and Fujian Investment Group, is due to be completed in late 2021, with the facility being fully operational early in 2022.
The terminal will be built on a 50-hectare plot of land reclaimed from the sea. This major civil engineering project will be carried out by CCCC Third Harbour Engineering.
A planned second phase of the terminal would double the LNG-handling capacity and bring investment costs for the facility up to $960m.
Separately, at its Tianjin terminal CNOOC is to construct six 220,000 cbm LNG storage tanks.
